Short Story: Big Blue

Posted: under Uncategorized.

I finally got done with “Big Blue”, a short story written from a woman’s perspective and heavy on the dialogue. It packs some emotional punch, but it’s not high fantasy. It’s present day stuff.

Still, I might enter it somewhere and see how well it performs. If anybody would like to give my first draft a read, I’d love whatever criticism you can offer. And if anybody knows of a good writing contest, that would be most helpful as well.

Oh, by the way, I’m still waiting to hear back on “En Prise” the short story I submitted late last year. :P

My fingers are growing sick of being crossed all the time.

Later, taters.

A poem: Tokyo 1

Things are starting to feel a lot more like home again, wouldn’t you agree?

Tokyo 1

Magical~
Messages back and forth.
Drawing in the dark.
Little screens of the big world
Over the ring of fire.
Glimpse the ocean.
Different world,
Staying to left sides.
Rule obeyance
High respect
Cigs at children’s height.
Micro toilets.
Vending machines.
Pride in people’s work.
Buildings in the hissing rain
Overwhelming
But if we can do this,
Then we can do anything.
Eleven hour lag.
AM-PM open.
Nervous.
But so many ‘good mornings’
And bright smiles.
“Ohayo,” we’d say back.
And I could find my ichigo drink
That I would never have again.
Person in the way.
“Sumimasen,” we’d say.
We could get our snacks
We’d found were full of bean paste.
It was trial and error.
But we could get umbrellas.

I thought I’d share this poem. It was written in reaction to my first day in Japan. Hope you liked!

If you want to get something done…

…ask a busy person to do it. Definitely don’t ask a person who still doesn’t have a job & got an X-Box 360 for X-mas to do it. No, that wouldn’t do at all.
A busy person can turn writing time into relaxation time.
When I have infinite free time, I always seem to find a way to squander it all away.
To a person with infinite free time like me, writing can seem like a chore. Not fun-time.
Maybe I forgot how much fun writing was.
