The Prologue

Since I don’t actually have better judgment to judge against, I put up a sample chapter. Yes, the actual first-draft prologue of Five Rings is online and available to you right now, ready for perus-ation and scrutinization.

What a great way to kick-off the Novel-Push Initiative, right? Get some of my work out there for curious eyes to see…

I chose to put up the prologue because—as is the very nature of prologues—it’s spoiler-free.

Sure, by sharing my writing, you guys’ll likely find out that I’m in way over my head and you’re all wasting your time here and I’m a total hack. But I figure you’d have found out eventually anyway….

All the same I’d be honored if you gave it a read. I’d be even more honored if you hooked me up with some (albeit legally-binding) feedback. Comments right here on this post would be fine.

But you could also email me (esp. if you plan to send a poop-storm my way).

I recoded the contact link in PHP today so emailing me works quite nicely now… complete with a java-based redirect timer countdown thingy (<-this is a fun link to click on). And got the forums working. It’s really really rudimentary right now, so don’t bother visiting it, yet… Cuz it sucks right now. I’m serious. I haven’t done a damn thing with it aside from getting it to work.

Ah, and RG Sanders will be joining the fray for NPI next month, which starts The Day After Tomorrow *echoes*.

Excited? I sure am. ^__^

Anyway, hope you enjoy the story.

  1. Impressive! I just read it for the first time, and although it’s too late for me to think of any criticism, I will just leave you with this.. I really enjoyed it! — especially Dahjal. :P Really digging the setting as well.

  2. ^__^ Thank Latrina!
Glad you liked. I’ll be looking forward to your criticisms.
And thanks to everybody that’s emailed me so far. With some of the great suggestions I’ve heard, it’s going to take serious discipline to not edit it until I’m done with my first draft.
    *biggest smile ever*
