NPI Day 4

WC: 613 words.

An odd, quirky thing that helps me with my word count each day is vowing to not drink or even touch a caffeinated beverage (I’m addicted, you see. I have to have a soda at some point every single day) until I’ve reached 250 words.

:9

The first scene I was writing ended at exactly 251 words. It was tempting to stop there, but I didn’t feel accomplished. I moved on to the next scene to get Cirellio and Cauinn out of Javo and into the next part of the story, bringing me to 613.

Packsister’s been pep-talking (pestering? lol) RG and I to push our daily word counts higher. I guess I’ll try for more, but the main goal of this exercise is to train ourselves to add to our tomes every day—or at least more often.

200-1000 words every two weeks just wasn’t cutting it for me. Still, a little friendly competition can’t hurt. Though I must admit I’m at a slight disadvantage by posting my word count first each day ;)

Tomorrow will be the first official tally of our progress. RG Sanders made a nice graphic for it. (Thanks again!)

Oh yes, and…

The forums. If you’d like to, come on in and register and discuss things. There’s two categories: General Chat and a Testing Zone. There’s only one discussion up: What categories should we have? I’ve a few in mind myself but would like to hear your opinions as well.

  1. Biggest daily WC for you yet, Mister.

::will look at said forums after he has, what’s that thing… oh yeah, written::

  2. About you posting your word count first every day. It’s just that you and I are in completely different time zones, if I assume right that you live in America. Don’t know about RG, though. But it doesn’t really matter who reports first. We all do our thing and the competition is very friendly!
However I’ve a free day tomorrow, so my word count will definitely be over 1000. Hehe. Just wanted to say it, :) You’re doing very well yourself, though!

  3. My WC has been increasing each day, hasn’t it? I wonder how long I can continue this trend…

  4. You know, there is only that much a person can write a day. None of us would keep up increasing the WC forever. Doesn’t mean we can’t try, right?

  5. I guess I’m winning as far as posting first goes. Nya-nyah!
(I was just trying to be silly with the ‘who posts first’ thing.)

  6. You do live in America, though, right? If you don’t mind me asking.

  7. yes I do. The Mid-West.
… I knew I forgot something in my About the Author page.

  8. If the clock here on the site shows your correct time, it’s around 4pm for you or something. Well, it’s around midniht for me. So technically I should be the one who’s the first to post about the progress every day, no? Anyways, I’m so glad I haven’t run out of ideas for scenes yet, because every time so far I sat down to write and had no idea what it should be. Do you have the plot line for your entire novel worked out already? At least in general?

    Comment by packsister — March 4, 2009 @ 4:18 pm

  9. yes, I already know what every scene is and have written out my entire plotline scene-by-scene.

The devil is in the details: what the characters say, what exactly gets done in a given scene, what is and isn’t described, and when some information needs to be doled out in order for everything coming to make sense. As a result, I’m being very careful going forward with each scene.
