NPI Day 25 – The End.

Just two words today.

The & End.

^__^

Yes, the ‘End of the Book’ I’ve been craving since the beginning is upon us!

It feels so good to be done. I’ve been working on this thing since … September 2007.

But it’s just a first draft. To be honest, you couldn’t pay me to show this fuzzy-logic, missing-scene-ridden, poor dialogue version to anybody. I guess that’s what a revision is for, right? :)

I have the option to start a new project for NPI and continue on for the next 6 days, or to stop here. I think at this point I’m going to stop here, keep my mind focused on Five Rings, & read a few books on how to properly tackle a first revision.

I’ll post the final word count when I get Total Assistant working (my free trial expired).

  1. WOOHOO!!

Wow, what a long yet exciting road it has been. Congratulations! I am a little sad, to be honest, that we won’t get to hear what you’re adding next to the book, your blogs, etc.. BUT, now we are getting closer to being able to read it. :D Very much looking forward to that!

    Congrats again, Nick! *cheers!*

  2. Hell yes. Congratulations, man! I wish you the best of luck with your revisions, and, as always, I’ll be more than willing to look any scenes over for you :)

  4. Congratulations! Isn’t it intoxicating, the feeling when you’re FINISHED with a book, even if it’s just a first draft?

  5. @Trina: Hakuna matata! I’m not going anywhere. In fact, I’m hoping to share my experiences with editing, and then there’s always books 2 & 3. And the prequel I’ve had in mind, focused on the life of Murelana. (I plan to work on that during NaNo). And then there’s any other books, poems, and short stories I imagine along the way.
I’ve also been thinking of doing Annotations for each chapter, and putting them in the WIP part of the website. I would think it’s safer to annotate after you’ve revised.

  7. Kudos, matey!

Now to take a small break (though we all know you won’t be able to stay away for long!)

  8. Well done! On to edits! One to revisions! On to beta readers!

So what is this book thing of yours about, anyway?

  10. @Joseph: “So what is this book thing of yours about, anyway?”

Heh. Oh yeah. I was afraid that question was coming. Hummm. Let’s see here…

The main character gets mislead by his faith into murdering his own father, a misstep that gets him deeply involved with the political struggles between four nations, all mixed with a worldwide panic that the world is coming to an end.

His search for a new religion forces him to confront many things he previously believed were false, apex’d by the fact that he’s being stalked by someone who should’ve died 1000-ish years prior.

Meanwhile, a group of demons are trying to stop the end of the world.

It’s book 1 of a planned trilogy (of course, what newbie high fantasy author doesn’t plan trilogies these days?)

  12. omg hi steph!! I totally forgot about the short story critique you wanted from me a couple of weeks ago.
Soooo many things have been happening lately, it got buried under an Inbox dogpile.
But I’ve found it again and am reading now. Stay tuned ^_~

  14. I am so excited about reading your book. (I’m really digging the story line & all the little snippets you have shared with us) If you ever need a beta reader, or whatever, look for meee. :)

  15. @Steph: ze critique ees done. Wanna be a beta-reader too? :)
@Trina: Thank you! I’m so happy to already have willing beta readers. Your feedback will be greatly appreciated since you’re such an avid book-reader (and great friend). I must be blessed to have people like you and christopher around—I’d better get my shizzle together and edit quickly!!
